The Rose Inn stands on a property which once belonged to William Penn. The land had been deeded within the Penn Family with the stipulation that one red rose be paid annually as rent. Perhaps this is the oldest such deed in America.
In 1927, the Conard-Pyle Company, prestigious growers of the Star Roses, acquired the property.
Since the land surrounding the Inn was to be used to grow roses, the company decided to change the name of the Inn to the Red Rose Inn.
Today, the Inn is owned and operated by the Mutasio Family. With it's rustic flair, the Red Rose Inn serves its visitors and guests in a truly elegant and comfortable atmosphere. The Inn is a busy place receiving many prominent guests from around the world. In the past the Inn has been host to the likes of Helen Keller, Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxemberg, various Senators and Congressmen and numerous originators of the new roses from England, France, Germany and other countries. While enjoying the Inn's hospitality, visitors can relax before open fireplaces, or gaze at antiques from the past and at paintings by local artists. A step outside the door and viewers are captivated by the site of Star Rose's Memorial Gardens a half a block from the Inn.
